Jonn Einerssen

Bio

Jonn Einerssen has studied light as his life’s work and started to paint at the age of 21. Wide open spaces where the imagination can wander as far as the eye can see, have been the main inspiration for his soulful paintings. Two vastly different scapes, the prairies and the sea are joined by his inner connection to the unadulterated freedom of open spaces. Jonn's prairie works delve deep into his own roots and philosophies, reflecting perspectives, lives and memories.

Both privately and self taught, Einerssen has followed a successful and adventurous career over three decades, painting and exhibiting across the continent. Raised in Saskatchewan, Jonn spent many years on the west coast, living in the Rockies, and eventually settled in Kelowna, where his studio and gallery are currently located.

Einerssen works almost exclusively in oils, layering glazes to create a translucent and harmonious play of light and color. While each painting is a bold, realistic interpretation, it begins with an impression. The artist blocks in a painting from a feeling, a process that may take from several hours to a day. He then works other block-ins until the feelings subside, moving to a technical approach to transform the feeling into an intense recognizable form.

Einerssen completed numerous expeditions with peers, painting on location in Haida Gwaii, Nova Scotia, Great Bear Rainforest and other special locations. These expeditions were recorded in shows and exhibitions throughout North America. He is a founding member of Western Lights Artist Group which has toured extensively, with shows in New Fork, Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and other great cities in North America.

His work is well published and represented in Galleries across Canada. He has been juried into many shows, won numerous “Best in Show” awards and inducted into the Calgary Stampede Fine Art Exhibition Hall of Fame. Corporate collections of his work include: Air Canada, Bank of Montreal, Hong Kong Bank of Canada, Coldwell Banker, Delta Bow Valley Hotel, Exxon, Dome Petroleum and Sindi Hawkins Cancer Clinic to name a few.
