A variety of forming processes are used to develop and energize the painting surfaces. Subject matter can vary greatly, integrating human activity and surroundings in a visual narrative that invites the viewer in. A love for the creative process itself, opens the door to inspirational possibilities at many levels. All layers of personal life experience and observation contribute to the creative expression.

“I grew up listening to many stories of our family’s rich pioneering history in British Columbia as well as adventures stretching across the country north and south of the border. Ranching, mining, and exploration were themes in these stories and marriages into the first nations communities created a mix of native traditions as well as old world references. From time to time, I have reflected on these as sources of inspiration and ideas for paintings.’’

Richard is also a respected instructor and mentor to emerging and well established artists. He has served at the Federation of Canadian Artists at the board and VP level. He has been instrumental in the start-up and administration of numerous studio art educational programs, and continues annual workshop instruction activity in Canada, US, Britain, France and Spain.
